She's a Mover & a Shaker

Little Miss Lauryn will be 7 weeks old on Wednesday. Can't believe it!! We thought we would update you on her current progress, although small, we think they are cute little progressions.

  • She smiles ALL THE TIME when she hears mom and dad talking.
  • She will immitate you - especially with sticking out the tongue!
  • She has slept from 10pm - 4am for over 2 weeks straight! Whoever says babies don't work on schedules hasn't witnessed Megan as a mom!
  • She can roll from her belly to her back, and from her back to her belly!
  • She can straighten out her legs and "stand" on them.
  • She can "grab on" to her bottle (picture below).
  • She recognizes her toys, and loves to take a swing at the ones on her bouncy chair (as seen in the video below), and grab them even in her sleep (pictures below).
  • She is "scooting" on her belly - she has troubling knowing what to do with those arms, but somehow can still scoot a foot or so across the floor.
  • Her favorite things to look at are lights and ceiling fans, especially in church!
  • She has mastered the art of spitting up!
  • Yes, she is STILL in newborn clothes and newborn diapers!

Enjoy the video- make sure you have your volume turned up all the way, and watch until the end. She stops playing with her toys, but decides to leave mom a different present at about 40, 43, and 53 seconds.

3 to 1 - The Competition is On!

As posted a few weeks ago, Lauryn received her first SDSU t-shirt and declared herself a Jackrabbit in the class of 2032. Well, Eric doesn't agree, as he feels the Harvard of the Midwest is the place for her to pursue a college education. For those of you who are not familiar with this wonderful institution, it is also referred to as the former Mankato State University. Since Grandpa Stan resides in Mankato, Megan thinks he felt obligated to purchase some MSU gear. To our surprise, Lauryn was bestowed a T-shirt, onesie, and socks that all sport the MSU logo. Those of you SDSU supporters, we are down 3 to 1. We've got to pick this up quickly, as we only have 18 years to win the battle!

Thank You Tara Jean, Friends, & Family

A huge shout out to Tara (and Trudy!) for hosting a baby shower for us last Saturday. Of course, Tara is the queen of hospitality, and everything was absolutely wonderful. We cannot thank her enough for her constant support and kind heart. We enjoyed seeing many family members and family freinds. It is always a joy to connect with others again, especially when a special little one is involved. Lauryn is lucky to have such loving people in her life!

Little Blue Eyes

Lauryn is now over 5 weeks old, tops the scale at 7lbs 6oz, and continues to eat like a champ! She had a few mini-milestones in the recent weeks. Lauryn is actually awake during the day - we set a record of being awake for 3.5 hours at one time! In addition, she has slept from 10pm to 4am for 6 nights in a row. We are hoping this trend continues! Lauryn gets lots of "tummy time" and we are proud that she can "scoot" by utilizing the crawling motion. She was also able to roll from her back onto her stomach the other day. Megan had to wake Eric up at 7am for him to witness that one! We will see if it was a fluke or if she does it again.

4 Week Update

Hard to believe Lauryn is a month old already, and that the actual due date has now come and gone (June 8th). Hopefully we will start to see a more alert baby from here on out!

We went in to visit the "milk maid" today, and Lauryn is 7lbs! They would have liked to see a few more ounces on her, but she gained within the appropriate amount and we are headed to life without a bottle! We will see if she can eat enough from mommy to be satisfied!

We have had many people ask us who Lauryn looks like. Check out the pictures below and you make the determination!
Stats:
1st pic - Megan was born 3 weeks early, weighed 6lbs and was 19 inches
2nd pic - Lauryn was born 4 weeks early, weighed 5lbs 15oz and was 19 1/4 inches

SDSU Class of 2032

Just thought we'd let everyone know that we officially have the newest member of the South Dakota State University family. And yes, despite what Eric says, she will be a Jackrabbit in the graduating class of 2032. We haven't decided on a major just quite yet, but we have it narrowed down to a select few. Go Big! Go Blue! Go Jacks!

Boy How I've Grown!

I thought I'd post a picture of my growing progress. The first picture is the one from when we left the hospital on May 14th, and the second is a picture from today, before mom took me on a walk. Boy, how I have grown!

I also added a picture of me on the quilt that Grandma Pat made for my crib. I sure do like to snuggle with the quilt.

That's all for now; learning how to type and use the Internet sure does make me tired. I'm ready for a nap. Love, Lauryn
