An Average Baby? We'll Take It!

We had our 4 month appointment, and we officially have an average sized baby! We started out in the 5th percentile, and we jumped to the 50th percentile by month 4. We will take it! Lauryn officially weighs 13lbs 6.5oz and she is 24 1/4 inches long. FIVE INCHES since birth...who knows, this is probably normal, but we are excited. Let's hope she gets the Gruis height genes.

Since Eric has a few slight food allergies, we were encouraged to hold off on the solid foods until at least 6 months. WHAT?!?!? We think that is kinda silly, but I suppose, if we want to reduce the risk of Lauryn's food allergies, we better listen.

Lauryn was able to spend last weekend with grandma and grandpa as dad picked up an extra shift, and mom was working on her paper (yes, a paper that has been "in progress" for nearly 4 years!). Anyhow, mom and Lauryn spent the weekend in Byron, and mom made great strides on her paper. Of course, Lauryn had a blast, but we think grandma and grandpa had even more fun! It is such a blessing to see how a 13lb baby can bring such joy to others!
Uncle Buster, Carrie & Vanessa got to play with Lauryn, and we got to visit with friends Jessica and Aspyn, too. It was so fun to see how fast Aspyn is growing and how different babies are from 4months to 7months!

In the mean time, the other grandpa decided to get a good work-out, and helped us obtain landscaping bricks. These will be used underneath our new shed and for a dog run. Why, you ask? Well, I guess the dogs need a shed to live in so that we can finish our basement so Lauryn has more room to play. Sound feasible? Well, if you knew how much the shed...AKA dog house cost, you might side with Megan. But, if you are a guy and think you need manly projects to do, you will side with Eric. Needless to say, we are SO THANKFUL to grandpa Stan for literally "bending over" backwards for us and helping us out.
Off to play with the "bean" who has now turned into a "worm"...

Just Checking In...

We've been busy since the start of school with little time to spare! Lauryn continues to be a very active baby, and seems like she is changing every day. As you can tell from the picture below, our house has turned into a play gym. Lauryn seems to be entertained by toys only for a bit, and then needs to be on to the next. Eric is teaching her "arms up" when she gets out of her jumperoo. It is quite cute, as she can do it occasionally. We are getting use to daycare, and continue to feel blessed that we only need 12 hours a week.

For those of you "pray-ers" out there, please send your prayers out for Dewey Johnson. He is the father of my dear friend Tara Jean from college. He has suffered from Luekemia for the past 17 years, and now has developed another condition that prevents his bone marrow from functioning properly. He has started intense chemo, but that is on hold, as he contracted an infection in the tissues in his nasal cavity, so had to have emergency surgery. He has numerous blood transfusions and injections to boost his white blood cells. Needless to say, he needs some prayers and their family needs guidance as they face tough decisions regarding his health daily.

We hope you are enjoying this lovely fall weather!

Daddy Daycare

We've been busy as we get familiar with the schedule of working and daycare. Eric is super-dad and spends every morning with Lauryn until noon, including full-days on Mondays and Tuesdays. He is learning the ins and outs, and seems to have a better appreciation for the time Megan spent with Lauryn all summer! Lauryn is doing pretty well adjusting to daddy daycare instead of mommy daycare. She certainly has her moments, but that could be her growing spurts, too! She seems to have developed quite the appetite this week, and is constantly hungry once mom picks her up from daycare until she goes to bed. She continues to sleep a good 10 hours a night, and even a bit more some nights. We've tried some rice cereal, and she seems to think it is fun to eat! We don't go in for our 4month appointment until Sept 20th, so we may just give the rice cereal a try once or twice a week until then.
Daycare is definately going to be an adjustment for mom & dad! But, we will get used to her teachers and they way they do things. Lauryn already seems to enjoy it. She loves staring at the other kids in the room, and they continue to comment on what a great baby she is and how she just loves to smile.
She definately "talks" a lot more and she started to giggle...too cute! Hopefully we can get it on film one of these days.
Happy Labor Day to Everyone!
